Coroner identifies man found dead following Dayton shooting

A man who was found dead at a Dayton home after a shooting was reported on Gondert Avenue has been identified.

Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger identified the man as Brian Jacobs, 51, of Dayton.

Emergency crews responded to the 700 block of Gondert Avenue around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday after a woman reported her grandson shot Jacobs, according to 911 dispatch logs.

Jacobs was reportedly shot in the head and was not breathing.

Dayton police took 26-year-old Dillon Engle into custody at the scene. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary murder, according to Miami Valley Jail records.

He has not been formally charged.

Jacobs’ cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time. According to the coroner’s office, he lived at the home where the shooting took place.
